Exploring Geographical Trends in Consumer Expenditures in metro Atlanta (WIP)

This map includes consumer expenditures per houshold, deomographic and socioeconomic data. The consumer expenditures data is from Esri. The demographic and socioeconomic data from the American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates (2018-2022). The metropolitan area includes 1003 census tract in five core counties: Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton, and Gwinett (Corrigan, 2021). The expenditure data per household has Alcoholic beverages, Apparel & services, Dining out (Food away from home), Education, Entertainment/Recreation, Food consumed at home, Health Care, Household Services, Housing, Life and other insurance, Pensions and social security, Personal Care Products and Services, Local Transportation (Gasoline and Vehicle maintenance and repair), Travel, Child care, Day care/Nursery & Preschools and Babysitting/Child Care in Own/Other Home. The socioeconomic data includes Median income, Median age, Percent foreign born, Percent high school degree or higher and Home ownership rate. This dataset aims to let users explore the spatial attributes of neighborhoods based on their spenditure habits through spatial statistics and spatial visualization and further examine those correlationship between spenditure habits of residents and economic, racial, and age composition.
